Candlelight VigilOn December 14, 2012 Louisiana was facing a $165.5 million deficit and a number of services and programs were to be cut. Among those services was the elimination of the hospice Medicaid benefit. In response, the Alliance and LMHPCO wrote a letter to the Governor and organized a Candlelight Vigil on the steps the the Louisiana State Capital. Moments before the vigil was to start, Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals (now known as the Department of Health) announced that they were no longer eliminating the hospice Medicaid benefit.
