Louisiana

Through out Louisiana Legislative Sessions the Alliance provides it members with direct updates to legislation that can significantly affect hospice providers and the industry that supports them.  The Alliance worked with legislators, state departments and related industry professionals on the following bills and issues.  

Past Legislative Accomplishments 

• Senate Bill 556 that added the Alliance to the Louisiana Income Tax Check-off (2012)
• Organized and led a rally on the steps of the Louisiana State Capitol and a state-wide campaign for reversal of the elimination of Hospice Medicaid Benefit (2013)
• Senate Bill 302 amends the medical consent statute and add attending physician and adult friend (2014)
  
• Senate Concurrent Resolution 53 to request the Louisiana State Board of Medical Examiners of place information regarding end of life care on its official website. (2014)
• House Concurrent Resolution 86 created a study committee on family caregivers and long-term supports and services and added LMHPCO as a member of the committee. (2015)
• Louisiana Family Caregiver Act (2016)
• The Louisiana Uniform Adult Guardianship Protective Proceedings Jurisdiction Act (2016)
• Added LMHPCO as a stakeholder to the Drug Policy Board’s Advisory Council on Heroin and Opioid Prevention and Education (2017)
• Senate Bill 26 that authorizes hospice providers to disposed of patients medication after death (2018)
• Senate Bill 119 to create the Palliative Care Interdisciplinary Advisory Council (2019)
• House Bill 431 to create a special hospice aid permit for Angola Hospice volunteers (2019)
